Doin' the Run Around

Epic Theatre was a theatrical technique pioneered by the late great Bertolt Brecht. He fused song, satire, slapstick, subtlety, pathos and politics all together into explosive productions which changed the world. How? They made people feel while they thought. Now, Black Swan Theatre Company are set to reignite Brecht’s vision with the master playwrights masterpiece – the Caucasian Chalk Circle. The HotBed Ensemble rework this classic in which a servant girl rescues a child of royal blood from a violent coup and becomes its surrogate mother. The bizarre climax is poignant, powerful and utterly unforgettable. In this version by Frank McGuiness, director Adam Mitchell brings together an assortment of local talent – including set and costume designer Brad Reid (Access 31’s Queer TV) and choreographer Claudia Alessi (Crossfire 2006) – to deliver a spellbinding show. Set at PICA, The Caucasian Chalk Circle runs from February 28 until March 15, with shows selling out incredibly fast. www.bocsticketing.com.au
