Barbra & Frank

She was a Jewish woman, a diva whose outbursts and demands are as legendary as her voice. He was a cranky, sometimes misogynistic man, with links to some rather notorious friends. And both Barbra Streisand and Frank Sinatra have gone down in history as being among the greatest entertainers of their time. They mixed in the same circles, stepped out on the same stages, and attracted the same audiences – yet never appeared or recorded together.

It was inevitable that someone would explore what might have happened if Streisand and Sinatra ever worked together. The Concert That Never Was is a tribute to these legendary artists. Featuring actors Sharon Owens and Sebastian Anzaldo it is set on stage, an imaginary concert, with a mix of some of the more memorable music interspersed with playful, and at times, tense banter. Anzaldo said: ‘Our chemistry as Sharon and Sebastian almost helps create our chemistry as characters on stage. We stay in character – We portray the characters. Everything we do back and forth is in our characters, but we’re like that on stage.’

The Concert That Never Was is on the road after running for three and a half years in Las Vegas. Owens and Anzaldo have grown into their roles as Streisand and Sinatra, and work hard to keep their stage presence fresh and relevant.

The Concert That Never Was is playing at The Regal Theatre on Friday, 14th March. Tickets through Ticketek.
