Kylie Minogue will be the AFL Grand Final entertainer

The footy season might have just got underway, but the entertainer for the Grand Final in September has reportedly been locked in.

Channel Seven has reported that Australian entertainment icon Kylie Minogue will be the headliner for the pre-game entertainment. There had also been speculation that the Grand Final might by shifted to being a twilight game, but yesterday the AFL announced it had locked in an afternoon event for the next two years.

Last year, US rapper Snoop Dogg was the entertainer — a choice that caused headaches for the league after he voiced homophobic commentary weeks out from the event.

In recent years KISS, Robbie Williams and Katy Perry have all been paid big bucks to take on the slot, while organisers have faced criticism for not backing Australian talent.

Minogue will be the first Australian artist to get the gig since Eskimo Joe were featured during the COVID era, when the Grand Final was held in Perth. International performers have brought Australian artists on as special guests during their sets.

Minogue had a busy year in 2025 touring the world with her Tension II album, bringing out a live album, appearing on the US television series The Residence and updating her collection of Christmas tunes. Whether Minogue is heading back into the studio and will have new music to promote later this year remains a mystery.
