Couch Potato | New comedy galore with Urzila Carlson

Urzila Carlson has a brand new comedy series Urzila arrives on the ABC this month. It’s a mix of stand up and sketch comedy.

If you’re already a fan of Carlson’s comedy you might find you’ve already heard some of these routines, but its nice to see a return of sketch comedy after such a long time of it being absent from Australian television.

Carlson explores the concept of Early Onset Karen, as she discovers he patience for other people is diminishing. Takes inside the pitch room in the television world, gives a different perspective on genealogical exams and same sex weddings, and planning a heist based on excessive watching of true crime documentaries.

There’s also appearances from a cavalcade of the best comedic performers in Australia today including Sam Pang, Julia Morris, Madeline Sami, Anisa Nandaula, and many others. While upcoming episodes feature Melanie Bracewell, Tom Gleisner and Nazeem Hussain.

The series makes its world premiere on Wednesday 29 April at 9:20pm on ABCTV.

Adrian Mole is returning for a new generation

The BBC have announced their making a new series of beloved 80s icon Adrian Mole, and Changing Ends star Oliver Savell will lead the cast.

The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole Aged 13¾ from author Sue Townsend was first published in 1982. Written in diary form it charts the adventures of an awkward teenager navigating puberty, crushes, his family and life in general.

Townsend would go on to write many books in the series taking the lead character through to middle age. It was turned into a radio production, a play and in 1985 a television series. The original series starred Gian Sammarco in the lead role and a cast of well-known actors including Julie Walters, Beryl Reid and Louise Jameson.

Now more than 40 years later a new television adaptation is coming. Savell has completed three seasons of Changing Ends where he portrays the young Alan Carr. A forth season of that show is on its way too.

Cast announced for new season of Taskmaster Australia

Rove McManus, Celia Pacquola, Anisa Nandaula, Brett Blake and Joel Creasey will be heading to the Taskmaster House for the show’s new season.

Taskmaster Tom Gleeson. Joined by his ever-loyal, occasionally helpful assistant Tom Cashman, the pair are ready to unleash a fresh round of absurd, baffling and downright ridiculous challenges on a brand-new batch of brave comedians.

Taskmaster Australia Season Five Premieres Thursday, 7 May At 7.30pm. Watch and stream free on 10.
