The West Australian Pulse celebrates emerging young artists

For more than three decades, The West Australian Pulse has highlighted the incredible talent of local young artists.

The exhibition brings outstanding works from 2025 Year 12 Visual Arts graduates to the Art Gallery of Western Australia (AGWA). This year 63 pieces were selected from more than 300 entries.

The works were selected by a judging panel including Isobel Wise, AGWA Associate Curator of Contemporary Art; Abdul-Rahman Abdullah, Artist; and Lisa Bowden, Principal Consultant, Visual Arts, School Curriculum and Standards Authority.

Pulse offers a remarkable window into the cultural, social and personal landscapes shaping young people today,” Wise said of the exhibition.

“The works selected this year are thoughtful, inventive and deeply engaged with the world – reflecting not only artistic skill, but also courage, curiosity, and critical awareness.”

The pieces explore a range of themes including self-identity, sexuality, mental health, neurodiversity and cultural belonging.

As part of Pulse, the Runway Art fashion parade will be held on Saturday 23 May, featuring designs from North Metro TAFE, South Metro TAFE and Curtin University.
