Sporting power couple Megan Rapinoe and Sue Bird split after 10 years together

Celebrity sports couple Megan Rapinoe and Sue Bird have announced they are breaking up after more than a decade together. The couple had previously announced their engagement in 2020 but never made it to the altar.

The couple announced their separation in a joint Instagram post.

“This hasn’t been an easy decision, but it’s one we’ve made together, with so much love, respect, and care for each other.” the couple said.

“We’ve shared a whole life over the last decade, through big moments and in quiet ones, and that is something we’ll always carry with us.”

The couple also announced that the podcast their create together would also come to a conclusion.

Rapinoe was a professional soccer player who represented the USA in the FIFA Women’s World Cup in 2011, 2015, and 2019. They played for the USA at the 2012 London Olympics where the team won the gold. In July 2022 Rapinoe received the USA’s highest civilian honour the Presential Medal of Freedom from President Joe Biden. Rapinoe is non-binary and has been a vocal supporter of transgender inclusion in sport.

Sue Bird is a professional basketball player who played her entire career with the Seattle Storm. Earlier this year she was inducted into both the NYC Basketball Hall of Fame, and the FIBA Hall of Fame in Germany. She represented the USA at the Olympics in Athens, Beijing, London and Rio win gold on each occasion.
