Grants available to support events celebrating International Volunteer Day

Local not-for-profits and community groups have an opportunity to celebrate the vital work of volunteers in our community on International Volunteer Day later this year.

The state government has announced the International Volunteer Day Grants Program is now open, offering grants of up to $1,000 for events and activities that give back to those who offer their time to support our communities.

Funds can be put towards ceremonies, awards, workshops, seminars or any initiative that supports accessibility and inclusion in volunteering.

Minister for Volunteering, Hannah Beazley, says the grant program celebrates the amazing work done by local heroes who make a difference each and every day.

“By supporting volunteer recognition events across Western Australia, we are investing in stronger, safer, and more inclusive communities, where every contribution is valued and acknowledged,” Beazley said.

“I want to thank all our amazing volunteers for the work they do, and I look forward to officially recognising their service on International Volunteer Day.”

In 2025, the Cook Government delivered $70,000 to more than 70 organisations through the program.

Events included an appreciation event held by Umbrella Multicultural Community Services, celebrating volunteers from LGBTIQA+ communities and culturally and linguistually diverse backgrounds, a community lunch and team building day for the Chung Wah Association and a community barbecue hosted by the Cunderdin Community Resource Centre.

The International Volunteer Day Grants Program is open until Tuesday, 2 June, ahead of International Volunteer Day on Saturday, 5 December.
