Budget funding increase to LGBTIQA+ communities welcomed

Rainbow Futures WA has welcomed a commitment from the State Government of $3.1 million over three years for the LGBTIQA+ sector.

The government announced a funding commitment of $2.25 million over four years in June 2025, and has now added more funds in the latest budget.

Hannah Beazley, the Minister for Local Government, Disability Services, Volunteering, Youth, and the Gascoyne, said the Cook Government was committed to supporting LGBTIQA+ communities.

“I am proud of the Cook Labor Government’s commitment to creating more inclusive communities, and part of this is supporting our LGBTIQA+ community.

“As the Minister responsible for delivering our first whole-of-government LGBTIQA+ Inclusion Strategy, I’m pleased to announce ongoing funding for LGBTIQA+ organisations.” Minister Beazley said.

“The State Budget includes $3.1 million over the forward estimates for the peak body Rainbow Futures WA, as well as the Youth Pride Network, GRAI, TransFolk WA and Living Proud.

“A big thank you to all these groups for helping us build more inclusive communities, and for being tireless advocates for the LGBTIQA+ community.” Beazley said.

Rainbow Futures WA has welcomed the funding increase for the sector.

“This is an important step. It recognises the need for sustained support for community-led work that improves safety, inclusion and access to services for LGBTIQA+ people across Western Australia.

“The commitment reflects years of advocacy by Rainbow Futures WA, our members, partner organisations and community members who have contributed their time, expertise and lived experience to make the case for change.

“As WA’s LGBTIQA+ peak body, Rainbow Futures WA will continue to advocate for investment that matches the needs of our communities, including sustainable services, stronger sector capacity and access to safe, affirming care.

“There is more to do, but this is a welcome step forward,” the group said in a social media post.
