Victorian couple charged over child sexual abuse offences

Two foster carers, who had previously been lauded for their work in the sector, have been revealed as being charged with child sexual abuse offences in Victoria,

Andrew Clifford Grey, 28, and Daniel James Grey, 26, from Bendigo were charged by the Australian Federal Police in May. Until this week a suppression order prevented the media from reporting on the case of Andrew Grey.

The ABC has obtained court documents that show police have alleged that Andrew Grey sexually assaulted a child under 16 years of age and produced, transmitted and possessed child abuse material.

Daniel Grey has also been charged with online child abuse material offences, using a carriage service to prepare or plan to engage in sexual activity with a child, and failing to disclose sexual offences against a child to police.

Additionally both men have been charged with engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a child.

Daniel Grey was a trainee teacher. Bendigo South East College and Kennington Primary School wrote to parents and carers earlier this year to alert them to the charges against the 26-year-old, and assure them they did not involve any students at the school.

Andrew Grey is scheduled to return to court later this month, while the case involving Daniel Grey has been adjourned to November.

The couple had previously been featured in a range of profile pieces in the media sharing their experiences of being foster carers.
