Resin Dogs – Gimme More

Vanguards of Aussie hip-hop, the Resin Dogs have finally released a new album, entitled ‘More’, and with it, the group has gone global, collaborating with a whole slew of indie MCs, including Abstract Rude, Brad Baloo, Demolition Man, and Koolism. Long-term Resin Dog DJ Katch gave OiP the lowdown on…

…The Record – It’s definitely a journey four years in the making. It’s a huge step ahead of what we have been doing. It is a global record, more than an Aussie hip hop record. We got people involved across the planet.

…His Career Highlight – When we first did Big Day Out in 2001, we had a producer Robert Reed who was from a band called Troubled Funk. We had finished doing the album and were like ‘shit we got to go and do this national tour and Big Day Out.’ We just turned around and said ‘you wanna come on tour?’ This guy is probably one of the roots you go back to in hip hop music. We just happened to be working with him, and getting him to come on this tour for Big Day Out was just phenomenal.

…Being Indie – Being indie, you spend your own money unless you have some sugardaddy spending it for you. If you do sell an album though, at least, it’s an honest sale. Major record labels have shitloads of cash. They are big business. They have a way of tricking people into buying albums they don’t want… At the end of the day, just because you are platinum doesn’t mean you are good. You could be a platinum artist selling records and have compromised yourself.

…The Secret to Being Great Live – Getting the right people for the job, be it DJs, MCs or bass players. We don’t just go in and go ‘alright, we’re going to do our set’. We actually get the DJs and support acts that we want to have playing with us.

Favourite Resin Dogs Lyric – “Not going to get caught up in what someone else is saying.” From Decoder.
