PFLAG Research Identifies Parents Need More Help

Community

PFLAG recently commissioned a strategy session in which 50 participants shared their perceptions of PFLAG and current GLBTI issues core to the organisation.

A key finding was that parents needed more support in understanding and supporting their LGBTI children. Other findings included:

- Advertisement -
  • Face to face peer support groups: More effective support for family and friends of LGBTI individuals needed.
  • Safe & Accessible Counselling: More counseling for parents and LGBTI individuals wanted.
  • Same Sex Marriage: More information around discrimination and the legalities surrounding same sex relationships wanted.
  • Visibility: More visibility of GLBTI issues needed in the community needed.
  • Transgender Support: More counseling specifically targeted at transsexual and intersex people needed.
