Hip Hop Star Comes Out

Frank Ocean from hip-hop group Odd Future has come out, admitting that his first experience with love was with a 19 year old four years ago. Ocean (24) took to his blog to explain to fans the first time he knew he was same sex attracted.

‘I was 19 years old. He was too. We spent that summer, and the summer after, together. Every day almost, and on the day we were together, time would glide. Most of the day I’d see him, and his smile. By the time I realized I was in love, it was malignant. It was hopeless.’

Working in what is to be considered a ruthless and often homophobic industry, Ocean has been commended by music mogul Russel Simmons for his courageous move.

‘Today is a big day for hip-hop. It is a day that will define who we really are.  How compassionate will we be? How loving can we be? How inclusive are we?’, he said.

Ocean is now the second member of Odd Future to openly share their sexuality after colleague Syd Tha Kyd confirmed that she was gay earlier this year.
