London World Pride Parade Desperate For Funds

The LGBT community are calling on Mayor Boris Johnson to assist in the funding of London’s World Pride Parade, after a recent major shortfall. In June the lack of funding was revealed by Pride London to be standing at roughly £66,000 ($101,000 AUD), meaning massive last minute compromises to the event.

Without financial help from Mayor Johnson, the cutbacks would include no late night licensing or special events in Soho, a reduced rally in Trafalgar Square, and no street drinking.

Floats also didn’t survive the budget cut, meaning those who paid £2,500 to secure a float spot will also miss out. Long time LGBT activist, Peter Tatchell has referred to the event as an absolute disaster.

‘We’re not only letting down LGBT people in Britain, we’re also betraying the trust and confidence of LGBT people world-wide’.
