Pride WA Announces New Nominees

pride flagPride WA has announced to members that it has received seven nominations for both the male and female positions on their committee ahead of Tuesday’s AGM.
On the male side; Graham Lovelock, Daniel Smith, Scott Rawson, Marcus Remta, John Vidovich, Jeff McDonald and Dean Cahill are standing.
On the female side; Michelle Rigg, Sue Fisher, Laura Foster, Bree Maddox, Aimee Barber, Andrea Findley and Bronny Coombes are the candidates.

There are twelve positions available on the committee and the organisaton’s constitution requires an equal gender balance.

Lovelock, Smith, Rigg and Fisher all joined the Pride committee late last year when it was revealed the organisation was unsure of its financial position. Jake McPartland, who also joined the committee mid year, has not nominated for election.

Dean Cahill is the only member of the 2012 committee seeking re-election. The remaining members of the committee that was in place at the last AGM have all resigned. Male Co-President Paul van Lieshout, female co-president Alice Newport and Women’s Officer Sonja Jovic have resigned half way through their two year terms.

During the year Treasurer Katy Daly, Co-President Rebecca Hills, Festival Coordinators Kingsley Norris and Matthew Landers and Membership Officer Joel Murphy resigned from their positions.

Notable among the nominations is Bree Maddox, owner of The Court Hotel. Just two years ago Pride WA publicly condemned The Court Hotel for its ongoing refusal to provide any financial contribution to Pride from its Pride night party which directly competed with Pride’s major fundraising event.

Media organisations have been also been barred from the meeting and employees of media organisations who are members of Pride WA will be banned from revealing the content or outcomes of the meeting in their professional capacities.

Pride WA’s Media Spokesperson Sue Fisher also explained to OUTinPerth that the meeting would operate under the Chatham House Rule and that all members would have the freedom to a free and open discussion about the future of Pride without concern that their comments could be reported in the media.

Pride WA’s Annual General Meeting is on at Loton Park Tennis Club on Tuesday February 26 commencing at 7pm.

Only paid-up Pride members are eligible to attend the AGM and vote in the election. However former members whose memberships have lapsed may renew on the night. Pride’s rules will not permit new memberships to be accepted on the night.
