The Great Gadsby is Coming to Perth

hannah_poster_picTasmanian comedian Hannah Gadsby has just invested in what she now considers to be an essential piece of bedroom furniture, and she’s spreading the word.

‘It’s amazing, get one!’ she exclaimed, shortly after my revelation that next to my bed was an empty space. ‘You’ve got somewhere to put your lamp. If you haven’t got a lap, get a lamp. You don’t have to get up to turn the light off. There’s a place for my glasses, there is water if you choke. It’s wonderful!’

Gadsby is bringing her newest show Happiness Is a Bedside Table to the Astor theatre on the 18th of May. The brand new story telling stand up show promises her trademark self-depreciating humour, as well as a ruthless account of the worst moment of her life:

“I tell a story about when I went skinny dipping and got caught in a rip. It’s an intriguing experience, a double whammy”.

Having won over the hearts of comedy lovers worldwide with her ingenious self-mockery, the accident-prone Tasmanian admitted that taking the mick out of oneself was “a perfectly natural thing to do”, but also enjoyed laughing at the misfortune of others.

In regards to the highly anticipated Perth show, Gadsby explained “it’s a moving show. I’m an emotionally manipulative medium”.

Having recently included marriage equality in her stand up in Melbourne last year; Gadsby shot down questions of nervousness in making that topic funny.

“I wasn’t worried about that; do you think I should have been worried about that? I’m a professional! I’m more nervous about talking about 15C painting to be honest, that’s a tougher one to make funny”.

Openly gay, the comic admitted that promoting LGBT rights was certainly a goal “visibility is good, the more the merrier”.

Hannah Gadsby will be performing ‘Happiness Is a Bedside Table’ at the Astor Theatre on May 18. Grab your tickets from showticketing.com.au
