The film contains graphic sex scenes, which some critics have suggested may need to be edited prior to a mainstream cinema release. The sex scenes in the film are not simulated and one reportedly lasts for over 10 minutes.

The Palme d’Or is the festivals top prize, previous winners include Terrance Malick’s ‘The Tree of Life’, Gus Van Sant’s ‘Elephant’, Lar’s Von Tier’s ‘Dancer in the Dark’, Quentin Tarantino’s ‘Pulp Fiction’ and Mike Leigh’s ‘Secrets and Lies’.
