The Good Fortune Roast Duck House in William Street is a Perth institution, reguarly highlighted as one of the best low cost places to eat in the city. Now the restaurant has opened up a second branch in Victoria Park. The new location celebrates in Grand Opening this week.
The new location is very similar to the original restaurant, it’s all about the food, forget the ambiance. The service is fast and straight forward. While most dishes were a cut above your average Chinese restaurant, the duck was a disappointment, which is a pity for a place that has duck in it’s name.
We ordered a platter of roast pork, roast duck and Octopus. The pork was sensational, falling of the bone and melting in your mouth. Crunchy on top, but succulent everywhere else. The Octopus was tasty but a little on the tough side. The duck however was a big let down, more bones than meat and really tough.
The other dishes we ordered though were fantastic, a sizzling seafood and tofu dish was perfection and the beans with mince was delicious, the beans were crunchy and packed with flavour.
The restaurant was noisy, sound bounced off the walls and tiled floors creating a cacophony of chatter, so much you couldn’t hold a conversation with the person on the other side of the table. So remember, it’s all about the food here – forget the company.
Good Fortune Roast Duck House’s new establishment is at 884 Albany Highway, Victoria Park, while the original site is at 334 William Street in Northbridge.
