Wau Wau Sisters Dodge Death Threats

1934_wauwau_golden_ladies_EFUL_IMAGEThe Wau Wau Sisters are one of the few acts who have performed at Fringeworld since it’s beginnings four years ago. This year their back again with a new show that is all about their last show.

It seems that when the two sisters from somewhere in America took their show to Queensland they had to be put under protective custody as the festival received death threats due to the sister’s habit of mocking religion in their performance.

As one of the sisters says, “We’re show girls, your supposed to buy us cocktails, not threaten to kill us!”.

Throughout the show the two sisters, they only refer to each other as “my sister” – they have no names, delve into comic banter about religion, morality, celebrity, and what to do when you find your own sister really attractive.

Combined into this high energy show is acrobatics, many costumes changes and possibly the best audience participation of all time.

The content is fairly ‘full on’ and while some of the audience were finding it hilarious it was notable that some of the more conservative people in the crowd were not seeing some of the humour.  Running at over an hour in length the show is a tiny bit longer than it needs to be but it was a whole lot of fun.

Warning: Contains profanity, sexual references, nudity, religious insults and music  from La Roux.

The Wau Wau Sisters: ‘Death Threats and Other Forms of Flattery’ is playing at Da Parel Speigeltent in the Urban Orchard of the Cultural Centre at 10pm until Wednesday 29th January. Get tickets at Fringe World.
