Project X: Wear It With Pride WA influencers on board and ready to go

Western Australia’s eight storytellers are ready to add their stories to the national education campaign for the 85 law reforms pertaining to same-sex attracted people, Wear It With Pride, at a launch to be held at the State Library Theatre on June 8.

Wear It With Pride is based around a series of 85 T-shirts inspired by various human stories behind the reforms. Each of the 85 T-shirt designs will be used as part of a cross-media campaign to the help LGBT community members engage with the new laws so they get the most out of their new entitlements and responsibilities.

Western Australia will be contributing to the national campaign by putting forward eight community influencers of our own to share their stories and experiences and to wear their designer t-shirt with pride. This is a fantastic promotional opportunity connecting human faces to the sometimes hard to understand laws.

Our eight story-tellers and influencers are Dr Graham Brown, Dani Wright, Tim Brown, Samantha Dowling, Neil (Nanna) Van Zee, Verity James, Charles Denham and Mark Reid. All have contributed to, or been supportive of, the GLBTIQ community in Western Australia.

People can learn about these influencers’ stories when the state launch and education session is held at the State Library theatre on June 8 from 6pm. Everyone is welcome to attend this free event. It is a great opportunity to come along and learn exactly how these changes to Federal Law can affect the day to day living of same sex attracted people in WA and across the nation.

Involvement with the campaign is entirely voluntary and pro-bono. Each participant, whether they’re a storyteller, designer or influencer, will play a vital role in promoting this human rights milestone for Australia.

The WA AIDS Council in collaboration with ACON and the LGBT Health Alliance has been involved in the Wear It With Pride education campaign designed to bring awareness to the 85 law reforms that the Federal Government passed in July of last year.

The national website www.wearitwithpride.com.au has the specifics for each law change. For more details on the State launch and education session please contact the WA AIDS Council on 9482 0000.
