Rugby Gay Slur Caught on Live TV

yay-828381A NSW Rugby player is being investigated by the games tribunal after he referred to another played as a, “f**ing gay c***” during a game. The comment was captured on live television.

The incident occurred during an rugby league under 20’s game between New South Wales and Queensland. The commenter were made by as yet unnamed NSW player to Queensland’s Luke Bateman.

It estimated that over 100,000 viewers would have heard the comment when it broadcast of Fox Sports.

NRL Chief Executive Dave Smith has declared that there is no place for discrimination in the sport and the player will be investigated by the tribunal. If found guilty the played could face fines or suspension.

“There is no place for any form of discrimination in our game.

“Rugby League is a game for everyone and we will not tolerate slurs based on gender, race, sexuality or any other matter.

“The NRL is determined to stamp out discrimination in our game.

“This matter will be investigated fully and, if any player has vilified an opponent, appropriate action will be taken”, said Mr Smith.

Last month the NRL signed up to a new charter to end discrimination in sport.
