YEAR 12 PERSPECTIVES WINNER
And the winner is… Patrick Bridges of St Norbert’s College for the ‘People’s Choice Award’ of the 2009 Year 12 Perspectives exhibit. The Art Gallery of West Australia announced the winner in mid May for his work entitled ‘Railway Parade’. The year-12 student attracted the most number of votes from the public made up of visitors to the gallery and the website. Bridges said he drew inspiration for his artwork from walking down his own street, Railway Parade. ‘In this work I have captured a suburban moment that we may never see again. In today’s society, many of us take for granted what we see every day.’ Bridges said.
SPACED OUT MAN
The well-travelled IASKA organisation is currently calling out for expressions of interest in its next project ‘SPACED’. With exhibitions previewed from Fremantle to France, the program intends to engage with more locations and communities. IASKA is looking for strong social projects that are contextually-responsive. Regional organisations and artists have been encouraged to contribute with opportunities for professional development and mentoring for young people. FLY ME TO THE MOON
As strong supporters of the Pride Festival, Northbridge’s Moon Cafe is looking for LGBT artists to exhibit their work during the festival month. The cafe has set aside their exhibition space for the month of October exclusively for the LGBTI community. Virginia Ivory from the Moon Cafe said she was excited about the exhibition and was looking forward to hosting some of the community’s best talent. ROSA ROSA ROSA!
Rosa the Russian waxer to the stars is coming to Perth for one night only following her successful sell-out shows at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival. The Baltic beautician will be waxing her way through WA in late June with reviews labelling her ‘a true chameleon entertainer’. Travelling with her troupe of other characters, Marney McQueen’s Sunburnt Country tour will leave you in stitches. The show has appearances from McQueen’s stock of characters including a Gold Coast cougar; a carbon neutral bride and Perth Airport’s chief Border Security officer. Held at the Octagon Theatre on Wednesday June 30, McQueen will also hold one show in Karratha on July 4. Tickets are on sale now.
