Study: Lesbians Have More Orgasms Than Other Women

Studies have yet to examine the correlation of turtlenecks with orgasm frequency.

A study recently published in The Journal of Sexual Medicine has examined how sexual orientation correlates with orgasm frequency, and found interesting results.

Variation in Orgasm Occurrence by Sexual Orientation in a Sample of U.S. Singles’, published on Monday, took responses from 6,151 people, then analyzing the responses of a subset of 2, 850 who had had sex in the past 12 months. They were asked to identify their sexual orientation, gender, and the percentage of time they achieve orgasm during partnered sex on a scale of 1 to 100.

There was little variation for the male participants, with straight men reporting orgasm in 85.5% of partnered sexual experiences, gay men had an 84.7% orgasm rate and bisexual men came in at 77.6%.

The female participants had a lower rate of orgasm across the board, with bisexual women at 58%, straight women at 61.6%, and lesbians leading the charge with 74.7%.

According to the study: “self-identified lesbian women are more comfortable and familiar with the female body and thus, on average, are better able to induce orgasm in their female partners.”

The study goes on to conclude: “Findings from this large dataset of U.S. singles suggest that women, regardless of sexual orientation, have less predictable, more varied orgasm experiences than do men and that for women, but not men, the likelihood of orgasm varies with sexual orientation. These findings demonstrate the need for further investigations into the comparative sexual experiences and sexual health outcomes of sexual minorities. “
