Michael Paynter – Love The Fall

Michael Paynter is hitting the big time. His new song Love The Fall, featuring The Veronicas, was the most added nationally across NOVA and Austereo on the week of it’s release.

His style is ‘pop music that’s quite organic’ with the new single an epic heartfelt message of hope, one reflected in the music video set in a dark and brooding forest.

‘The song is about how there are positive thoughts and negative thoughts in your head and life’s more about choosing to listen to the positive thoughts more than the negative thoughts,’ Paynter explained on the phone from his home in Melbourne.

‘And there’s that element of risk in life where you feel like you don’t know all the answers and you feel like you’re taking a leap of faith or a step in the dark and you don’t know what’s happening, that’s the beautiful thing about life.

‘I’m just not the kinda person who wants to go through life living it safe I guess.’

Paynter had originally recorded an album back in 2005 with Matt Wallace, the man responsible for Maroon Five and Faith No More, but its release at that point hadn’t felt right.

‘You can only release your debut album once and it just wasn’t the right climate. There was a lot of crap happening in the music industry at that point.

‘Life is all about knowing when doors and windows are opening and I guess at that time I had opportunities to work with Newton Faulkner and Shannon Noll and I ended up being on the road for eight or nine months.’

Now, with Love The Fall, the timing couldn’t be better to take a leap of faith.

Would you rather play under the sea or in outer space? Under the sea, because of that amazing song from The Little Mermaid. I’d play that song under the sea.

If you could be a Transformer, what would you transform into? A ridiculously old vintage amplifier. A 1962 Marshall. And I would tear everyone’s face off with volume.

What’s the strangest thing a fan has done for you? I did have a person who likes my music get a customised bath towel with my name embroidered on it and gave that to me. A little strange but very thoughtful.

Which Spice Girl would you be and why?
Spice Girl? Gosh. Probably Posh Spice because even I think that David Beckham is ridiculously attractive and I’d kill to have that much money to spend on clothes.

Love The Fall is out now through Sony Music.
