#EqualityCalling

Equality Phone box 8

In an Australian first, Australian Marriage Equality and Ben & Jerry’s have joined forces to champion the new initiative, #EqualityCalling.

In light of politicians claiming that marriage equality is not a hot topic for constituents, #EqualityCalling will encourage voters to record messages of support via hotline that will be sent directly to politicians. The goal is to make it easier for voters to get the message across to politicians that there is massive support for the movement.

The hotline is equipped with an audio guide, voiced by comedian Wendy Harmer, that will help callers through the process with ease (and provide a few laughs as well).

Ben & Jerry’s, a self-styled social justice company, have teamed up with Australian Marriage Equality for their continuous “Say I DOugh” campaign in support of equal marriage rights in Australia. The #EqualityCalling campaign will launch with the revealing of the Say I DOugh #EqualityCalling phone box – a London phone booth with a Mardi Gras twist – at Fair Day on Sunday 22 February.

Rodney Croome, Australian Marriage Equality national director, said: “Polls show 72% of Australians support marriage equality and this exciting initiative will help convey that high level of popular support from the towns and suburbs of Australia directly into parliament”.

You can reach the #EqualityCalling hotline on 1300 663 679.
