Tony Abbott urged to see 'Holding the Man'

Holding the ManRyan Corr, the star of the new Australian film ‘Holding the Man’ has described the Prime Minister’s attitude towards marriage equality as “archaic”.

Corr has suggest the PM would benefit from seeing the film adaptation of Timothy Conigrave’s best selling memoir. Corr plays Conigrave in the film.

“It’s disappointing Tony Abbott could have had the opportunity to be the prime minister that supported people loving who they wanted but instead it’s gone the opposite way.” Corr told the Sydney Morning Herald.

The film shares the story of Conigrave and his long-term partner John Calleo from when they met in the 1970s. Corr has said he hopes the film changes people’s minds about marriage rights.

“Hopefully Tony Abbott will go and see it. It might open his mind a bit …” Corr said.

The actor will be heading to Perth to do a Q&A session at a special screening at Luna cinemas that’s being presented by the WA AIDS Council, Luna Palace and OUTinPerth.

The screening is on August 26th at 6:30pm at LUNA Leederville. Tickets can be purchased via the events Facebook page. Read OUTinPerth’s interview with actor Craig Stott in our August edition.
