Local comedian Janelle Koenig’s Fringe World show is a celebration of everything from the ’80s. It’s a loosely structured show that includes audience participation games, songs and Koenig’s comedic reflections on the decade of her childhood.
The comedian dons a bright blue dress from the era, something which she notes would be described as vintage on the hipster website Etsy -but Tuesday yellow ticket special at the Cannington Salvation Army shop, before taking on a journey back to a time where were obsessed with Molly Ringwald, DeGrassi Jnr High and tunes by Kim Wilde.
The best parts of this show were Koenig’s interaction with audience members who were born before the decade of discussions. Throughout the show she’d have to pause an explain things to the youngest audience members.
There is some clever reworking of well known tunes, refreshed with some very funny new lyrics, and Koenig cleverly recalls some elements of the 1980’s that you have most likely long forgotten.
A simple show that’ll give you some laughs and make you smile.
