The later you go out at Fringe World the stranger the types of performances you encounter are.

For a little bit of fun we checked out ‘DJ Phone Home’ in the Da Parel Speigeltent, which is located in the Garden of Earthly Delights, more commonly known as the Urban Orchard.

This late night dance party puts the decision making into the audience’s control. You’re given a login to a website, and each time a choice needs to be made about what to play next, you get to vote which of four songs should progress to the turntable.

You don’t just get to vote once though, it’s 30 seconds of furiously tapping a button on your phone in the hope that you’ll push Inner Circle’s ‘Sweat (A La La La La Long)’ ahead of Shaggy’s ‘Mr Bombastic’.

You can see how the manic half minute of voting is going on a giant screen, shaking your head as the masses shepherd Reef’s ‘Place Your Hands’ to the front of the queue.

It’s a fun experience, grab a drink from the bar and boogie away, it’s a little bit like the mobile phone / digital equivalent of when you used to have to wait for someone else’s selections to run their course through the pub’s jukebox (for those of us old enough to remember that).

DJ Phone Home will be back at Fringe World next weekend.
