Grease is the latest musical to get a live TV treatment. Following in the footsteps of ‘The Sound of Music’ and ‘The Wiz’ which have recently had live TV versions, the popular musical will be performed live on US TV on January 31st and can be seen in Australia just a few days later.

Grease Live! stars Julianne Hough as Sandy, Aaron Tveit as Danny Zuki. Vanessa Hudgen as Rizzo, Keke Palmer as Pink Lady Marty Maraschino, Carlos PenaVega as Kenickie, Carly Rae Jepsen as Frenchy, Ana Gasteyer as Principal McGee, Eve Plumb (she was Jan brady) as Mrs. Murdock and  Boyz II Men will collectively be Teen Angel.

One of the cast members from the film is also signed up to make an appearance. Didi Conn, the original Frenchy, will take on the role of milk bar waitress  Vi.

The part of Vince Fontaine, which was most recently played in Australia by Bert Newton, will be portrayed by former ‘Saved by the Bell’ star Mario Lopez.

Jessie J will sing the classic theme tune. The song, which was written by the Bee Gees, was originally performed by Frankie Valli. While Jessie will sing the song live during the broadcast, she has recorded a version in advance to help promote the show.

The show will feature songs from both the original stage musical and the popular feature film.

Channel Nine will air the show on January 31st.
