Sydney gay man attacked twice in one night

The young man was outside his apartment early on Sunday morning where he’d just fare-welled some friends when he was punched in the face and knocked unconscious.

Souster reported that he woke up to being kicked by a group of seven people on Waterloo Oval, which is about a four minute walk from his house.

As he stumbled back to his home a ‘good Samaritan’ helped the young man back to his apartment, but when the young man said his boyfriend was upstairs, the man helping him reportedly called him a “queer c**t” and punched him in the face.

The assault is one of two suspected homophobic attacks that occurred in Sydney over the weekend. The Sydney Morning Herald has reported that two men were also attacked on Elizabeth Street in Surrey Hills.

Police have advised that people should try to stay to major roads when walking through the inner city area and people who find themselves in a situation where they feel unsafe should call 000 for police assistance.

The attacks come just a fortnight before Sydney’s Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras celebrations.
