Former federal senator Amanda Stoker has been named Queensland’s new Minister for Child Protection and Domestic Violence following the resignation of Amanda Camm.
Stoker previously served in federal parliament as Assistant Minister to the Attorney-General in the Morrison government and became well known for her conservative views. Before returning to politics in her home state of Queensland, she spent time as a political commentator on Sky News.
Alongside child protection and domestic violence, Stoker will also inherit Camm’s former portfolios of Families, Seniors and Disability Services.

Opposition Leader Miles said he was disappointed Premier David Crisafulli had appointed his “far-right spear-thrower” to the role.
“This is a woman who said sexuality was a choice. She’s now in charge of this government’s LGBTQ policy,” he said.
“This is a woman who said abortion should be illegal even for women who have been raped, and even today she refused to rule out advocating for changes to those abortion laws.
“David Crisafulli’s government has a problem with women and Amanda Stoker will only make it worse.”
Stoker said she considered it a privilege to be asked to take on the challenging role.
“This is, I don’t think it’s a shock to say, a difficult area in which to work, but I came to Queensland parliament to do hard things,” she said.
“I will leave nothing in the tank.”
