Greens South Metropolitan MLC Lynn MacLaren will find out what it’s like to live queer outside of Perth tomorrow as she hosts Mandurah’s first ever LGBTIQA+ community forum.

“The vast majority of the State’s LGBTIQA+ events are held in Perth, yet we know that there are community members of all ages outside of the city who want to have their voices heard,” MacLaren said.

“I want to find about the specific issues facing the LGBTIQA+ community living in Mandurah and the regions.”

“I’ve invited a panel of interesting speakers from some of WA’s most active LGBTIQA+ organisations who will share their personal and professional experiences and invite discussion.

“I’ll be talking briefly about some of the issues I’ve addressed in Parliament and what’s been happening in my role as Greens spokesperson for sexuality and gender identity.

“Some of the issues likely to come up are: responding to the recent tragedy in Orlando; the Safe Schools debate; marriage equality in Australia; and the benefits of programmes like Living Proud and the Freedom Centre.

“Before opening up to Q&A, we’ll hear from panellists including Australian Marriage Equality WA co-convenor Brian Greig, Living Proud’s Sandra Norman, RTRFM’s Paul Van Lieshout Hunt and Greens federal candidate for Canning Aeron Blundell-Camden, who has worked in schools in Mandurah for many years.”

Friday, 24 June, 6:20pm, Fishtrap Theatre, Mandurah Performing Arts Centre

  1. I had NO idea this was being held at all? Mandurah is great at NOT promoting anything that isn’t Ironman. Was it in the Mandurah Mail rag? Guess they’ll need to figure out how to do promotion now IM is gone from Mandurah.
