While Labor had previously said it would continue to support the program, the just released costings show a Shorten Labor government would continue to fund the program at $2 million a year through to 2020.

Previously the Labor party had only guaranteed continued support without putting a dollar value.

The Liberal party has only guaranteed funding for the program up until the end of 2017, saying the material would remain available afterwards but funding would be removed.

The Labor party have however posted a policy statement outlining that they would continue to deliver the program in its current state, including changes that were implemented after a government ordered review conducted by UWA professor Bill Louden. The Australian has outlined the party’s latest statements.

The federal Labor policy is signifcantly different that the position of the Victorian Labor government who have vowed to fund the program without a federal contribution so it can include the material removed following the recent review.

Labor’s $6 million commitment over three years is vastly different to The Greens proposal. The Greens have proposed $32 million towards the full roll out of the program.

  1. It nees to be funded in full and without the gutting that was implemented by the Coalition. While we’re at it we should be getting rid of the National School Chaplaincy Program and its 243 million dollar religious drain on tax dollars.
