Peter Hook ready to play Joy Division and New Order classics

Peter Hook, the legendary guitarist and founding member of Joy Division and New Order has booked a new Australian tour for October.

The tour will see Hook, and his band The Light, playing songs featured on New Order’s compilation album Substance and tracks featured on the Joy Division compilation of the same name.

Hook was founding member of the Manchester band Joy Division. The band’s career started in the mid 1970s and their 1979 album Unknown Pleasures was a critics favourite.

In 1980, just before the band was due to head off an a US tour, lead singer Ian Curtis committed suicide. The band released their second album Monument shortly after Curtis’ death.

Substance, a 1988 compilation complied all of the bands releases that were not included on their two albums. Including their best known song Love Will Tear Us Apart.

Following Curtis’ death Hook and his band mates Bernard Sumner and Ian Morris formed a new band New Order. Morris’ then girlfriend Gillian Gilbert.

New Order’s Substance contained many, but not all, of the hits the band enjoyed off in the first seven years of their career. Highlights include Bizarre Love Triangle, Blue Monday, Shell-shock and True Faith.

While New Order continues to release records and tour around the world, Hook is no longer part of the band. Since 2007 he’s work as a solo artist and often tours performing the hits of the two bands he’s most famous for.

In 2013, Hook published Unknown Pleasures: Inside Joy Division; an autobiographical account of the brief existence of the ill-fated band. Last year he followed it up with a second book Substance: Inside New Order.
