MTV’s 26th Movie & TV Awards have removed gendered categories for their upcoming ceremony at the Shine Auditorium in Los Angeles.

Formerly the MTV Movie Awards, the celebration of on-screen talent has expanded to cover the work of television and silver screen performers alike.

This year, the categories will not be split into “Best Male” and “Best Female”, combining each into one race for the trophy this year.

Taraji P. Henson, Emma Watson, Hugh Jackman and James McAvoy are all in the running for Best Actor in a Movie, while Millie Bobby Brown, Emilia Clarke and Donald Glover will battle it out for Best Actor in a Show.

RuPaul and Ellen DeGeneres are representing the LGBTIQ community at this year’s awards, both nominated for Best Host alongside satirists Samantha Bee, Trevor Noah and John Oliver.

RuPaul’s Drag Race is also up against The Voice, The Bachelor, America’s Got Talent and MasterChef Junior for Best Reality Competition.

The Academy Award winning Moonlight has received two nominations for Best Kiss and Tearjerker moment, while documentary This Is Everything telling the story of trans activist and blogger Gigi Gorgeous has also received a nod.

Workaholics star Adam Devine will host this year’s celebrations on May 7.
