Although much of Soundboy Rock seems recycled, it retains enough freshness to be an enjoyable listen. The Things We Could Share is a Basement Jaxx style carnival romp. Lightsonic is another (less charged) slice of electro-dub, while the title track sticks to a laidback reggae template. Veteran songstress Candi Staton appears twice in Love Sweet Sound, a bright disco-house number and the more chilled-out Paris. Not typical of Groove Armada, Song 4 Mutya (yes, as in the ex-Sugababe) is a tongue-in-cheek top-drawer pop song, and See What You Can Get shoehorns indie credibility by featuring Alan Donohoe of The Rakes.
