The latest Fairfax-Ipsos poll has sown that support for marriage equality has risen to 70%.

The positive result for the equality campaign comes as the Australian Bureau of Statistics begins to send survey forms to 16 million Australians to gauge their thoughts about changing the marriage laws.

The 70% support rate is from those who have described themselves as ‘certain to vote’ in the campaign. Sixty five per cent of people surveyed said they would fill out and return to forms in the marriage survey.

Even people who were not certain that they would complete the task of returning the survey forms voiced strong support of changing thew marriage laws. Seventy per cent of people who indicated they might not complete the survey indicated they were still in favour of marriage equality.

Marriage equality advocates however are still concerned that apathy could see people who support change forgetting to return their survey forms, there is particular concern that young people may forget to complete the process by putting the envelope into the mailbox.
