Pauline Hanson's One Nation issue vague response to 'Yes' result

Pauline Hanson’s One Nation (PHON) party have responded to the ‘Yes’ outcome in the postal survey on marriage equality.

PHON, who have three votes in the Senate crossbench, issued a non-committal response on social media after the announcement of the ‘Yes’ victory.

“Senator Hanson and all One Nation Senators acknowledge the Australian public’s response to the same-sex marriage postal vote and await the Government’s final private member’s bill,” the statement reads.

“We also assure the millions of Australians who have legitimate concerns about this process that One Nation will take a balanced approach when considering the final legislation.”

Hanson says any bill will be thoroughly examined before One Nation determines its position in the Senate.

“My office will publicly release the bill on my social media sites and we look forward to your feedback.”

In the course of the marriage equality debate, Senator Hanson has called for both a referendum and a ‘super-plebiscite’ to determine Australia’s opinion on changes to the Marriage Act, but she has not been clear on her own opinion on her party’s stance.
