Writer/director Marja-Lewis Ryan will take the helm of The L Word sequel, along with the original creator Ilene Chaiken as Executive Producer and actors Jennifer Beals, Katherine Moennig and Leisha Hailey.

“Ilene and the original L Word made me believe that my voice mattered,” Ryan told Hollywood Reporter.

“I am beyond excited for the opportunity to usher in the next generation of diverse queer people. I couldn’t imagine a better time to make this show.”

Ryan is an award-winning screenwriter, earning high praise from critics with her film The Four Faced Liar – based on a play she also wrote.

The auteur also has two feature films in the post-production stage; a remake of Ron Howard’s 1984 mermaid comedy Splash and 6 Balloons starring Dave Franco and Broad City’s Abbi Jacobson.

The new season of The L Word is slated to air on Showtime in 2018.
