Predicted wild weather cancels events across the city

Events planned for this evening across the city are being cancelled as the Bureau of Meteorology predict wild storms will hit Perth this evening.

The City of Perth’s Carols by Candlelight celebration in Langley Park has been called off. The fundraising event for Variety will not be rescheduled.

General Manager of Variety WA, Phil Croot said the decision to cancel was disappointing but unavailable.

“We are so disappointed and know there will be lots of families feeling the same, but safety is our number one priority for everyone”.

“We’d like to thank all of the amazing sponsors, volunteers, cast and crew who have worked so hard in the lead up to this event. We wish you all a very Merry Christmas and hope to see you for our 74th Carols in 2018.” Croot said.

In anticipation of the high winds that are expected to pass through the city this evening, the event organisers have already begun removing the staging.

John Farnham, Kate Ceberano, Mondo Rock and The Badloves were scheduled to play A Day on the Green in Kings Park this evening. That show has now been rescheduled for 4 February 2018.

“We apologise for the inconvenience this may have caused, however the decision was made in the interest of public safety,” the promoter said in a statement.

All tickets for tonight’s show will be valid for the new date. Ticket holders who want to obtain a refund can do so until 8 January 2018.
