World famous ballerina, acclaimed teacher and grand dame of the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts, Lucette Aldous is among the many Australians honoured on Australia Day.
Aldous is one of a select group of Australians awarded the nation’s highest honour, a Companion of the Order of Australia.
The respected teacher was recognised for her eminent service to the performing arts, particularly to ballet, as a principal artist at the national and international level, to dance education, and as a mentor and role model for young performers.
During her career Aldous was a principal artist with the Australian Ballet, the London Festival Ballet and Ballet Rambert. She starred alongside Rudolph Nureyev and Sir Robert Helpmann in the groundbreaking film of Don Quixote in 1973.
After retiring from the stage Aldous spent decades teaching a generation of dancers at The West Australian Academy of Performing Arts, where she continues as a guest lecturer.
