Claire Foy is best known for portraying Queen Elizabeth II in two series of the popular Netflix series The Queen. Her next project is The Girl in the Spider’s Web, a film adaptation of the best selling novel by David Lagercrantz.

The trailer for the new film shows Foy playing a vigilante Lisbeth Salander, sporting cropped hair and a lithe physique.

Foy takes over playing the much loved character Lisbeth Salander, who first appeared in Steig Larrson’s Millennium series The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, The Girl Who Played with Fire and The Girl Who Kicked a Hornet’s Nest.

Larrson died of a heart attack in 2004 at just 50 years of age, his publisher commissioned Lagercrantz to continue writing novels featuring his popular characters Salander, a girl with a photographic memory, and Mikael Blomkvist, an investigative journalist who published a magazine called Millennium.

The characters were previously portrayed on screen in the Swedish adaptations by Noomi Rapace and Michael Nyqivist. All three of Larrson’s books were made into films.

An English version of the first book in the trilogy was also made with Rooney Mara and Daniel Craig taking on the roles. Swedish actor Sverrir Gudnason plays Blomkvist in the new film. Transgender model Andreja Pejić also makes her film debut in the new movie.
