The Oscar, Emmy and Grammy Award winning icon was inspired to record the album following her stunning performance in the recently-released hit film, Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again.

Cher said she’d always been an ABBA fan.

“I’ve always liked ABBA and saw the original Mamma Mia musical on Broadway three times. After filming Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, I was reminded again of what great and timeless songs they wrote and started thinking ‘why not do an album of their music?’ The songs were harder to sing than I imagined but I’m so happy with how the music came out. I’m really excited for people to hear it. It’s a perfect time.” Cher said announcing the release date of the record.

The album’s cover sees the singer recreating a classic ABBA pose with Cher taking on both the roles of blonde ABBA singer Agnetha Fältskog and brunette colleague Anni-Frid Lyngstad.

Dancing Queen was recorded and produced in London and Los Angeles with Cher’s long-time collaborator Mark Taylor, who previously produced Cher’s global smash Believe, which was number one in over 50 countries.

The album will be Cher’s 26th solo release, she recorded an additional six albums with former husband and musical partner Sonny Bono in the 1960s. Her last album was 2013’s Closer to the Truth, a dance records which saw her working with top producers including Paul Oakenfold and Timbaland.

Cher is scheduled to be awarded a Kennedy Center Honor on December 2 in Washington DC. She is a co-producer of The Cher Show, the upcoming Broadway musical opening on December 3, and will be touring Australia and New Zealand in September and October.

Cher last toured Australia in 2005, when she performed 12 sold-out arena shows as part of her three-year Farewell Tour, which played to more than three million fans worldwide and remains one of the most successful concert tours in history.

The songs Cher tackles on the album are Dancing Queen, Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight), The Name Of The Game, SOS, Waterloo, Mamma Mia, Chiquitita, Fernando, The Winner Takes It All, and Cher just revealed the final tune is One Of Us.
