The Walkley Award winning cartoonist will be remembered by some for his satirical works, while others will be reminded of his anti-LGBTI statements.

Pickering made headlines last year when he appeared at a fundraising dinner for anti-Islam, anti-transgender commentator Kirralie Smith.

At the dinner Pickering reportedly told the Sydney audience on that he “can’t stand Muslims.” but  “They are not all bad, they do chuck pillow-biters off buildings.”

In the 1970’s he gained fame by drawing caricatures of politicians, often in naked poses. He retired from cartooning and invested in companies that developed betting software. The companies eventually collapsed and Pickering was featured on exposes on A Current Affair.

He restarted his cartooning career and through his website shared his hatred of Prime Minister Julia Gillard, Muslims, Jewish people, and the LGBTI community. His cartoons often mocked transgender people.
