Eighties pop star Billy Ocean is heading to Perth

In the 70’s and 80’s Billy Ocean had a string of hits in the charts, including Love Really Hurts Without You, Caribbean Queen, Loverboy, When the Going Gets Tough (The Tough Gets Going) and Get Out of My Dreams – Get Into My Car. 

Now fans will get a chance to see him perform live when he plays a show at the Crown Theatre on 17th June.

Ocean was born Leslie Sebastian Charles in Trinidad and Tobago, his family moved to the United Kingdom when he was ten years old. His first records were released under his birth name, but he later changed to being known as Billy Ocean – taking his surname from the London estate that he lived on.

In 1976 he scored his first big hit with Love Really Hurts Without You but his biggest success came in 1984 with his fifth album Suddenly. It contained several hits including the title track, Caribbean Queen and Loverboy. Ocean was one of the artists who played Live Aid in 1985.

His 1986 album Love Zone brought more hits including They’ll Be Sad Songs to Make You Cry and When the Going Gets Tough (The Tough Get Going) which was featured in the blockbuster film Jewel of the Nile. 

Ocean’s final big hit came in 1988 with Get Out of My Dreams,- Get Into My Car which saw him collaborating with songwriter / producer John ‘Mutt’ Lange.
