Acclaimed jazz musicians Australian James Morrison, and America’s Kurt Elling are joining forces for an unforgettable show. The pair will be at the Perth Concert Hall on 9th May 2019.
The collaboration will see Elling and Morrison playing shows in Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth and Sydney. Elling was last in Perth in 2018. Tour promoter Paul Chesher said seeing the two performers together was an exciting proposition.
“I’m thrilled and honoured to be presenting these world class jazz superstars together in Australia for the first time. Audiences are in for a real treat, expect an evening of superb musicianship and infectious stage chemistry. This is definitely one you do not want to miss!” Chesher said.
The tour comes on the back of a recording a very special live album at the iconic Birdland Jazz Club in New York.

Renowned globally as one of the finest jazz players of his generation, James Morrison is a not only a trumpet virtuoso, but the complete showman. James started playing professionally at age 13 and has a stellar professional career behind him: he has performed alongside the best jazz musicians of our generation and has had the privilege of performing for the President and First Lady of the United States. When asked about his extraordinary career, James declared, ‘This is just the warm-up!’.
Grammy winner Kurt Elling is among the world’s foremost jazz vocalists. He won the DownBeat Critics Poll for fourteen consecutive years and was named “Male Singer of the Year” by the Jazz Journalists Association on eight occasions. Grammy nominated over a dozen times, Elling has also been honored with international jazz awards, including the prestigious Edison Jazz Oeuvreprijs (Lifetime Achievement Award).
Elling’s rich baritone spans four octaves and features both astonishing technical mastery and emotional depth. When he chatted to OUTinPerth last year he told us his goal with each show is to sing the best he can.
“Man, I’m just trying my hardest to sing as well as I can. Life is short. I believe in jazz as an idiom, as an artistic avenue. I try to be true to the people who have proceeded me and the example they have set.
“My favourite singers and musicians have never been accused of being easy on themselves, so as much as I can sing it, I’m going to do my best to sing it as well as I can.” Elling said.
