Flamenco fever is coming to WA with the inaugural Perth Flamenco Festival kicking off later this month.

The festival will show off the talents of Perth’s flamenco scene with family-friendly activities and a gala performance featuring Inmaculada Ortega.

Ortega’s performances are described as powerful and charismatic, loaded with elegance and charm. Ortega will be joined by Perth’s own Jose Giraldo (guitar), Manolo Munoz (vocals) and Steve Richter (percussion).

The Flamenco Collective, the team behind the festival, are made up of Perth’s Spanish dance scene and schools.

“I’m excited to be working with Inmaculada Ortega. To work alongside an artist of this calibre is a great honour and a fantastic way to kick off The Flamenco Collective’s inaugural festival,” said Farida Rabih, director of Casa Del Compas, Perth’s largest Spanish dance school and the director and principal dancer of performance company, Flamenco Puro.

The Perth Flamenco Festival seeks to grow and strengthen a Spanish arts community by sharing the vibrancy and diversity of flamenco and Spanish culture and arts.

“We’re all thrilled to be a part of this unique festival experience,” said Karen Mooney, co-director of the newly established Spanish Dance Company and owner of Spanish costume and accessories company, Fuego Flamenco.

“The flamenco scene has been brewing in little pockets around Perth for a while now, but the festival marks a first for bringing all these groups together as a united flamenco community,” added Karen.

The Perth Flamenco Festival will be held at Claremont Showground’s Gate One Theatre from 12pm on Sunday 28 April 2019.
