WA AIDS Council considers rebranding with a new name

The WA AIDS Council are considering a name change, and are asking for the community’s thoughts on what they might be called moving into the future.

While AIDS support and awareness organisations were formed at the height of the pandemic, the tasks they undertake and the programs they delivered have gradually increased in support over the decades, and the their scope of operations have widened.

Not to mention the terminology in the sector has changed to focus more on HIV, the virus that leads someone potentially being given an AIDS status.

HIV support organisations in other states have gradually been changing their names, its many years since the AIDS Council of New South Wales simply became known as ACON, and last year Victorian’s organisation rebranded as Thorne Harbour Health.

Many people don’t realise the breadth of activities managed by the WA AIDS Council including the Freedom Centre, M-Clinic, Inclusive Education and many other programs.

The WA AIDS Council has put forward a series of potential names they might be known as in the future including just maintaining their abbreviation WAAC, changing to becoming the West Australian Health Council – which will sound the same when you pronounce the abbreviation: WAHC, or going with a totally new approach, rebranding as Sparc Health.

What do you think of the choices?

Head to the WA AIDS Council’s Survey to share your thoughts on the potential new names.
