The French President Emmanuel Macron described him as “an icon that knows how to set an example”, – as he presented the award during a private ceremony, which was attended by Sir Elton, his husband David Furnish and their two children.

Elton John is currently travelling the world with his ‘Goodbye Yellow Brick Road’ tour which he had labeled as his final concert tour. His life has also recently been dramatised with the film Rocketman.

John’s Legion D’Honneur adds to his many awards and honours including being made a Commander of the British Empire in 1995, and being knighted by Queen Elizabeth in 1998. He received a US Kennedy Centre honour in 2004, and was given a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame all the way back in 1975.
