TV Tonight have reported that ITV Studios Australia have locked down the local rights to the RuPaul’s Drag Race format, and will bring the drag competition down under next year.

“Yes, ITV Studios Australia have secured the rights to arguably one of the biggest formats globally at the moment,” ITV Studios CEO David Mott said.

“With Drag Race UK about to launch and already a major hit in the US and other territories we are set to shantay onto Australian screens in 2020.”

Drag Race has moved on to being a show that captures the imagination of everyone, no matter their age or gender and we will commence discussing with potential broadcast and streaming partners shortly. It will be one of the most talked about and noisy formats next year.”

Drag Race Australia would be the fourth spin-off of the show’s main series, following Thailand, Great Britain and the upcoming Canadian series.

No word yet if RuPaul will be hosting the Australian series as she is with Drag Race UK, or if we’ll shine a spotlight on a local host – as Thailand has done with co-hosts Art Arya and Pangina Heals.
