A Whole HUNK of Burning Love

Perth’s pink party scene is about to get a whole lot hunkier when Hunk, the night, hits Connections Nightclub on Saturday September 6. Yes, the bare chest brigade will be out in force as CNC presents a night of testosterone fuelled beats headlined by Buenos Aires babe DJ Ariel.

‘It’s that big gay boy party scene thing but with bigger tougher sounds and hotter sweatier men,’ said Connections Nightclub owner Tim Brown. ‘But seriously, it does look to be really, really good and with a lot more edge.’

The key promoter behind this soon to be monthly event, which is being held in conjunction with Sydney’s Midnight Shift, is one Rob Lay. Lay was originally a Perth boy who spent nearly two decades in London running some of the hottest clubs around, including the infamous Trade London. He was responsible for the whirlwind appearance of Princess Julia and Mark Moore a few years back and he now runs a successful DJ booking agency out of London.

‘He’s the first person I call when going to London and ask so what’s nuts?’ added Brown. ‘He’s back in the country and this is the first of a whole heap of stuff we got planned.

‘The brand is very much about that big queer dance party thing. Hot, sweaty, tribal and sexy. Tougher sounds and a big room feel. It’s gonna be about the best DJs that the world queer dance party scene has got to offer, with future DJs coming from Sydney, Melbourne, London, Europe and potentially even the States… oh, and of course Buenos Aires.’

Which is exactly where DJ Ariel comes from. He holds an impressive running sheet which includes appearances in more than 50 countries, sales of over 2 million records and 20 club residences, including a 7 year stint at Fabric! Impressive? To say the least.

‘This first guy Ariel is hot, and the demo he sent me was one of the best I’ve ever heard,’ added Brown, ‘it’s a tougher sound, not just a mindless banging thing. There’s loads of interesting rhythmic stuff going on with really exciting tribal drums and patterns. He also manages to sneak in some squelchy electro sounds and soaring vocals. All in all, pretty damn exciting.’

Presale $20 tickets to Hunk are available now from Connections Nightclub and Planet. To hear what DJ Ariel sounds like, visit www.djariel.com and follow the links.
